4 days of walking, sketching and painting coastal North Northumberland with Julie Gregory

*Non-tutorial* All levels of painting experience and painting mediums welcome

Julie Gregory, artist, owner of Springhill Accommodation and lifelong local to the area would love you to join her at some of her favourite parts of the coastline to draw and sketch in which ever medium you feel comfortable working with  

Holiday Details  

Arrival Sun 2nd June 2019

  • Arrival time 4pm – 5pm
  • Meet and greet at The Lookout accommodation with cake and hot refreshments  

Evening

  • Home cooked meal served in The Lookout Accommodation, please note; no alcohol or refreshments provided, feel free to bring your own

Day 1

Morning

  • Walk Budle Bay to Bamburgh Castle (Approx. 4 miles) During your walk we will stop at some of the most beautiful parts of the coastline with rugged cliffs, dunes and beach. The walk will give you views towards the Farne Islands, Budle Bay a renowned nature reserve not before looking over to Ross Sands and Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island.  During this time, you will be able to sketch and paint in which ever medium you would like to create a sketch book of ideas to take back to the studio

Lunch

  • Lunch at The Lord Crewe Bamburgh, Bamburgh Inc. within cost (exc. refreshments)

Afternoon  

  • Pick up and return to The Lookout for studio time
  • Cake and hot refreshments served late afternoon

Day 2

Morning

  • View the coast from a different perspective with a morning boat trip taking you along the coast from Seahouses to Holy Island passing, Lindisfarne Castle, The Farne Island nature reserve and Bamburgh Castle along the way (weather permitting). This will give you the most unique and somewhat unseen view of my coastline. During this time, you will be able to sketch and paint in which ever medium you would like to create a sketch book of ideas to take back to the studio
  • Bad weather non-sailing alternative: Visit the beautiful Holy Island, explore the coastline, castle, priory and much more. During this time, you will be able to sketch and paint in which ever medium you would like to create a sketch book of ideas to take back to the studio

Lunch

  • Lunch at Lewis’s Fish Restaurant, Seahouses for traditional fish and chips Inc. within cost (exc. refreshments)
  • Bad weather non-sailing alternative: Lunch at The Lindisfarne Inn, Beal Inc. within cost (exc. refreshments)

Afternoon  

  • Pick up and return to The Lookout for studio time
  • Cake and hot refreshments served late afternoon

Day 3

Morning

  • Low Newton to Dunstanburgh Castle round walk (Approx. 5 miles) This area of the coast is one of the most breath-taking in both summer and winter and favourite dog walk of mine. We will spend a morning exploring the beach, dunes, Dunstanburgh Castle and beach huts, there is something new to look at from every angle. During this time, you will be able to sketch and paint in which ever medium you would like to create a sketch book of ideas to take back to the studio

Lunch

  • Lunch at the famous Ship Inn, Low Newton Inc. within cost (exc. refreshments)

Afternoon  

  • Pick up and return to The Lookout for studio time
  • Cake and hot refreshments served late afternoon

Day 4

Morning

  • Beadnell point, cliff tops and beach. I grew up in the small village of Beadnell and it truly is a wonder of hidden gems. The fantastic tradition untouched harbour with stone lime kilns leading onto the rocky point behind the harbour mouth. We will them walk the cliff tops to my childhood favourite Haven beach. During this time, you will be able to sketch and paint in which ever medium you would like to create a sketch book of ideas to take back to the studio

Lunch

  • Lunch at The Craster Arms, Beadnell (Inc. within cost)

Afternoon  

  • Pick up and return to The Lookout for studio time
  • Cake and hot refreshments served late afternoon

Day 5   

Morning

  • Checkout 10am

Accommodation - The Lookout

During your stay you will be in a private en-suite bedroom located within the studio space. You will be welcomed on arrival with a two-course home cooked evening meal. Lunch is provided each day in carefully selected pub and restaurant followed each afternoon with a choice of cake and biscuits, coffee and tea back at the studio. Following on from this the course is based on self-catering where you will have full use of the kitchen facilities within the accommodation for breakfast and evening meals.

Price:

5 nights / 4 day 

£595 Painter

Of course, non-painter i.e. partner, friends or family members are welcome to join you during your experience with us. During their stay we would be happy for them to come join us to the first evening meal and afternoon tea if they wish.

£275 Non-Painter

We take a £150 per person non-refundable deposit when you book an art holiday and the final balance is due 6 weeks prior to you stay. Please see our terms and conditions for cancellation policies.
