The Artist

Fiona Graduated with a BA (Hons) in Illustration and Moving Image design from
Suffolk College and the University of East London
which lead to both Illustration commissions and a career in broadcasting.
She trained at the BBC before moving to SKY television in London as a Graphic Designer and Art Director
for several different television channels.
Fiona returned to her native North East in 2002 to take up a teaching post, specialising in Graphic Design and Drawing.
Community art classes in Drawing and Pastel began in 2013,
which Fiona now combines with her own Creative Practice, specialising in soft pastel work.
Her fascination with capturing or depicting movement remains a thread in her pastel work
which is often a personal response to physical and emotional aspects of being outside in the landscape.

Colour, structure, texture and light remain constant themes within a variety of subject matters
in which weather, temperature and a sense of space often feature.
Fiona’s work has been exhibited at galleries and venues across the North East, Scotland, Yorkshire
and Lancashire for the past few years and she now has her own range of limited edition giclee prints.

“I love the flexibility of working with pastel.
There are so many different ways of applying and working with this fabulous medium
that provides opportunities for both drawing and pastel painting.
I find the immediacy of application and richness of colour exciting. I am constantly learning and exploring.”

Fiona has been working with Northumberland based Unison Colour
as one of their Associate Artists. Now a recognised pastel specialist,
Fiona has a varied programme of Workshops and regular classes which run alongside her Creative Practice.
