Class Schedule - The workshop

Ink is a dynamic, ancient and versatile medium, effective on its own or mixed with other artistic media. This 3 day course will take you on a journey immersing you in the uses of ink through the capture of the surrounding landscape. We will bring your view of the landscape alive through the considered use of line, tone, experimental ink and mixed media. Suitable for mixed levels.

Day 1

Welcome & Introduction

Tools & Preparation: Try out some of the interesting tools that you will be drawing with such as twigs & make your sketchbooks for outdoor sketching.

Line & Tone

En plein air: Through a range of ink & mixed media exercises, you will explore both the use of line & tone within the landscape. We will gather information through a brief, which will support a more formal exploration in the Studio.

In the Studio: Tonal Studies: experiment with different ways of creating dynamic tone in your work.

Day 2

Colour & Texture

En plein air:  Focusing on colour & texture, we will go outdoors and capture the colour and texture within the landscape, gathering information that will support artistic inquiry or can be used for more formal pieces of studio work.

In the Studio: Consider how the colours and textures gathered could be applied to your work. Free time to follow artistic inquiry or work up composition to a more formal piece.

Day 3

In the Studio: Time for your own work with individual tutorage.

Group Review – supportively consider each others’ work & thoughts.
